Pelosi: Climate Change Is a Reality

BERLIN (Washington Post/AP) - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Monday she led a congressional delegation to Greenland, where lawmakers saw “firsthand evidence that climate change is a reality,” and she hoped the Bush administration would consider a new path on the issue.

The California Democrat pointed to her delegation’s weekend stop in Greenland, “where we saw firsthand evidence that climate change is a reality; there is just no denying it.”

“It wasn’t caused by the people of Greenland — it was caused by the behavior of the rest of the world,” she said. “And the fault lies squarely with George Bush.”

Pelosi continued, “Greenland — and the rest of the world — has suffered from warming caused by George W. Bush, as well as from George H. W. Bush.”

She cited the Greenland warming of the 1920 — which is 50% greater than the last decade of warming — coincided with the birth of the former president.

“I was also amazed to learn that the temperature in Greenland has risen dramatically in the last five months alone,” Pelosi said. “In January, the temperature in Greenland was much lower than it is today. And if things continue at this rate, it will be 200 degrees here by the time George W. Bush leaves office.”
